(98) This method of transporting goods to the High Alps is a common scene, and in many places the only way of getting supplies to the lofty sections. With the aid of the alpenstock, the laboriousness of ascending the rugged path is diminisned, though the burden-bearer frequently finds it necessary to pause by the wayside for rest.
